WASBA - the Washington State Beekeepers Associationwasba.org The Washington State Beekeepers Association, the WSBA, works closely in conjuction with Washington State University, WSU to represent and serve beekeepers in Washington state and the Pacific Northwest. The IEBA is proud to be one of several regional member groups from around the State of Washington. The WSBA was created specifically to collectively represent all beekeepers and regional beekeeping organizations of Washington State. The private, voluntary organization assists the agricultural community by ensuring the availability and access to helpful beekeeping medications. WASBA zones are illustrated by the Washington State map. ![]() WASBA Areas A larger version of the Apiary Advisory Committee (AAC)District map for the WA State Department of Agriculture can be seen by clicking on the link to the left. Membership: Basic membership is just $15.00. Beekeepers that have larger operations are asked to contribute a little extra. News from the WASBA : Recently, the WSBA lobbied and received approval through Section 18 for Checkmite™ and ApiLife Var™ use in Washington State.
Checkmite™ is a Coumaphose-based miticide. Apilife Var™ has been used in other countries for some time and is a thymol+eucalyptus oil preparation. As with any pesticide, follow the instructions to the letter. These are toxic substances and need to be handled with care. Misuse harms us, strengthens the mites, and weakens the colonies. One drawback in our climate is that the thymol/eucalyptus preparation is temperature dependent. To use it, some of us may have to pull honey supers off earlier than usual. Further documentation regarding labeling and approval can be found on the downloads page. To learn more about the WSBA, visit their home on the web at WASBA.org.
